THE LIFE OF DELANE MICHAEL SCHWINDT

On January 23, 1963 in Elkhart, Kansas, Benjamin Franklin Schwindt Jr. and Waunita Shirley Monroe, welcomed their eighth child into their family. In 1967, Waunita married a man, Duane Ferguson, that had to be a little crazy to welcome not only a new wife but nine children. He accepted the whole bunch with an open heart and abundant love. Duane and Waunita moved their family to the family farm where Delane started school at Yarbrough in 1968. The family moved to Boise City om 1974/ Delane was a proud Boise City Wildcat and loved playing Wildcat football. Ferguson plumbing was started in 1976 and the whole family had to pitch into help make it a go, Delane really took to the business.

Delane graduated from Boise City High School in 1981. After graduation, Delane went on harvest with Gary Walker and soon returned to Boise City where he drove truck for Joe and Joyce Farmer at Farmer's Trucking for several years.

Delane married the love of his life, Alta Jo Robinson in 1985. He accepted Dondey and Christy as his very one. In 1985 Delane and his family moved to Amarillo, Texas to enable Delane to study heating and air conditioning and then he apprenticed under Pratt Plumbing to get his Texas masters plumbing license.

Delane, Alta and the girls returned to Boise City in 1995 and took over Ferguson Plumbing. In 1996 Delane obtained his Oklahoma Master's Plumbing License. Delane and Alta adopted Makenzie as a baby. The three girls brought great joy and excitement into Delane's life. At the age of four, Cheyenne moved bringing even more smiles to his face. This family all enjoyed camping while Delane also enjoyed golfing. Delane was an avid OU Sooner and Dallas Cowboy football fan and enjoyed watching any Wildcat sport. Delane and Alta enjoyed little weekend mini vacations to New Mexico, Las Vegas and Colorado. They also enjoyed side by side property renovations including their own home and several rental properties. Delane was truly a family man and enjoyed cooking and participating in gatherings which included ALL of his extended family.

Delane believed in giving back to the community he lived in and he did that in many different ways. His activities included; Cimarron County Chamber of Commerce, City Council Member, a board member of Red Carped Country for eight years, chairman of Santa Fe Trail Daze for ten years, New Years Eve Bingo, started and helped with fundraiser for peopled in need, the farm show, golf course board, and worked tirelessly in helping with upkeep, tournaments and fundraising for the golf course. Delane was also a youth supporter for both Cimarron and Sherman County, as well as any organizations which approached him to help with the youth.

He has been honored for his community service by the Chamber of Commerce and the Boise City Service Unit of Girl Scouts of America.

Delane was preceded in death by Benjamin Franklin Schwindt Jr, sister Verna and brother Darryl as well as an infant brother Brett. He is survived by his wife Alta and daughter Makenzie and granddaughter Cheyene of the home. Daughters; Dondey and husband Cody of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Cristy Flick of Laramie, Wyoming. Grandchildren; Dylan and Carleigh Jo. Mother and father Wuanita and Duane Ferguson of Boise City. Brothers and sisters; Gerry of Boise City, Don of Amarillo, Texas, Deb and husband Randy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kyle and wife Lou of Boise City, Gary of Boise City, Kim and husband Billy of Boise City. Sister-in-laws; Brenda Sarder of Knoxville, Tennessee, Lela Schwindt of Rolla, Kansas and Alice Schwindt of Amarillo, Texas. Numerous nieces and nephews as well as special friends Britt Smith, Zona Ottinger and Doug & Winnie Heslep, Travis (Spanky) Brown and Jim Hallmark, the Jim Belford Family all of Boise City.

Celebration of life services will be Friday, August 24, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Boise City School Auditorium, Boise City, Oklahoma with Rev. Doug Heslip and Rev. Cindy Robertson, officiating. Interment will be in the Boise City Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials locally to Donor's Choice, they may be left in care of the mortuary.
