Violet F. Schmitz, 88, Mandan, died Sept. 19, 2004, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 22, at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Violet was born Nov. 23, 1915, at rural Judson, to Carl and Katie (Nelson) Ritz Sr. She was raised and educated south of Judson and attended Beaver Valley School. On Sept. 18, 1938, she married Clemens Schmitz at her parents' home. As a young woman, she worked at the school. Violet was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake and play cards.
She is survived by her husband, Clemens; five daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Ken Snyder, Bismarck, Carol and Dale Stearley, Coulterville, Calif., June and Lester Toman, Mandan, Sharon and Larry Bittner, Grand Ronde, Ore., and Marcella and Floyd Hopfauf, Mandan; one son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Yvonne Schmitz, Peoria, Ariz.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Pansy Hargiss, Mandan, and Lillian and Jim Otto, Mandan; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Wallace Ritz, Bridgton, Mo., James and Margaret Ritz, Grand Junction, Colo., Herbert and Lucille Ritz, Bismarck, Edgar and LaVonne Ritz, Billings, Mont., and Doris Ritz, Mandan; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
