Adams--William H. Wilken, 79, Adams, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1987, in Lincoln. Born May 5, 1908, in Talmage. Lived in the Sterling vicinity for 30 years before moving to the Adams vicinity and into Adams, where he lived for the past 21 years. Member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Sterling. Farmed most of his life in the Sterling and Adams vicinities until his retirement at age 63. Was a past member of the N.F.O. Was caretaker of the Sterling Cemetery for 11 years and was a part-time employee of the Beatrice State Developmental Center for two years.
Survivors: wife , Frieda; sons, LaVerne of Syracuse, Roy of Sterling, and Duane of Cortland; daughters, Mrs. David (Eileen) Wentz of Ord and Mrs. Ronald (Beverly) Schmidt of Eagle; 17 grandchildren; brothers, Herman and Ben, both of Cook, and John Wilken of Bellingham, Wash.; sisters, Mrs. August (Sena) Behrens of Cook, Mrs. Harry (Rosie) Ahrens of Syracuse, Mrs. Junior (Sophie) Beck of Louisville, and Mrs. Richard (Hilda) Kasl of Wilber. Preceded in death by his parents, Bernt and Augusta Wilken; sons, Ervin and James; one brother and one sister.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Sterling, Pastor Donald Cooper. Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sterling. Body in state at the church one hour preceding service. Memorial established to the church with the church elders in charge. Family prayer service: 1:15 p.m. Thursday, parish hall of the church.
