Newton, NC - Joyce Lou Moser Wilson, 82, of Newton, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born April 4, 1930, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Coburn Lamar Moser and Eula Baker Moser.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Lafayette Wilson; and brother, Coburn Franklin Moser.
Joyce was a dedicated teacher, a loving wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a good friend. She devoted most of her life to the nurturing and teaching of young people. She taught first and second grades at South Newton Elementary for more than three decades. She was also a teacher in the summer Head Start Program in Newton-Conover City Schools for many years.
She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for Love-N-Care Day Care Center.
She was extremely devoted to her family. She loved her three sons, Michael, Barry and Keith, dearly and adored her three granddaughters, Sara, Lauren and Taylor. She made many personal sacrifices to ensure the needs of those closest to her were met, and the love, happiness and joy of her family were at the heart of everything she did. Holidays were always special occasions, and every Christmas was a true celebration of love. She enjoyed working with flowers and plants around her house, especially her roses. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for the feasts she prepared for family and friends every Sunday afternoon. She was a sports fan who gravitated toward Tar Heel basketball, but who enjoyed sports and athletics on all levels.
In addition to her sons and granddaughters, her memory is left to be cherished by her daughtersin-law, Tanya Wilson, of Charlotte, and Lori Wilson, of Hickory; sister, Phyllis Moser Gardner, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nieces, Sandy Duncan, Deborah Emmons, Mary Jane Fulbright and Alison Bumgarner; nephews, Coburn Gardner and Greg Gardner; and cousins, Naomi Carter, Jerry Brown, Richard Brown, Iris Hoke, Mabel Little, Terry Baker, Micha Baker, Lowell Baker, Gladys Moser, Pat Moser and Frankie Matthews.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wesley Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, from 12 to 12:45 p.m.
The Wilson family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. Published in the Hickory Daily Record, 30 August 2012.
