Mrs. Katherine Babst Leist
The sudden death of Mrs. Katharine Leist, at the home of her nephew, Jacob Opp, on the Marietta Pike, Saturday morning, comes as sad news to her friends. Mrs. Leist, who has been at the home of her niece, Mrs. Umpelby on Hirn St. for a few days was in her usual health when she went to the Opp home Saturday. Shortly after her arrival, she was seated in a chair near where Mrs. Opp was performing her household duties, when she suddenly fell over and died almost instantly from heart trouble. Mrs. Leist was a native of Germany, but has resided in this country for many years. She was eighty seven years old at the time of her death. For the last fifty eight years she has resided in Missouri, having returned here about two years ago to live with her nephew, Jacob Pabst. The funeral services will be held on Monday in the church at Beaver, O., and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
She was the daughter of Phillip Jacob & Anna Margaretha Lucrohn Babst, and was married to Conrad Leist Mar 18, 1859 in Pike County. She was the mother of an adopted daughter, Alice Holt Leist, who is buried beside her. Her husband died at the Missouri State Hospital in Buchanan County, on Feb 20, 1916, just before she and Alice returned to Ohio. He is buried there in the Hospital Cemetery.
