Otto J. Jelonek, 86, of 521 McKinley Ave., Dunkirk died Monday (Oct. 18, 2004) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk after a brief illness.
He was born in Dunkirk on Jan. 7, 1918, the son of the late Andrew and Victoria (Domst) Jelonek.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in WWII as a technical sergeant in Guadalcanal from 1942 to 1946. He was a retired steelworker from Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corp.
He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a life member of the First Ward Falcon Club. His interests were playing cards, gardening and watching the Buffalo Bills. An avid softball and baseball player, he played in the city leagues for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jane (Ostrye) Jelonek whom he married June 24, 1944; four sons, Peter Jelonek of Buffalo, William Jelonek of Dunkirk, Nicholas Jelonek of Cohes and Paul Jelonek of Geneva, Ill.; three daughters, Kathryn Chmura of West Henrietta, Ann Kern of Houston Tx., and MaryRita "Molly" Jelonek of Dunkirk; three sisters Mary Knapik, Delphine Przybycien and Henrietta Jelonek all of Rochester; one brother, Frederick Jelonek of Sebring, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Jelonek.
