B. Bezner Rites Held September 4

Benjamin Rudolph Bezner, 82, Highmore died Monday, Aug. 31 at his home.

He was born September 16, 1898 in Essex, IA, he son of L. H. and Rosa Becker Bezner. He was baptized into the Methodist faith.

He married Myrtle Sowers on February 5, 1923 in Brooster, MN. She preceded him in death.

He married Hattie Novotny Curtis on June 19, 1955.

He farmed in Hamilton Township and later was employed by botcher Oil co., Highmore and was Hyde County Highway superintendent. He then worked for W. H. Hoel and son Construction Co. and later for Straights and Co.

He was a member of the Methodist Mens Club, chairman of the church board for many years, belonged to the IOOF Lodge and was a member of the senior citizens.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Doris Cermak and Pearl Loken, both of Minneapolis, MN, Virginia Van Zee, of Miller and Florence Straight, Highmore; four step-sons, Bryan Curtis, Huron, Bruce Curtis, Florida, Henry Curtis, Virginia and Dean Curtis, Hawaii; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Bezner, Cave Creek, AZ, Ralph Bezner, Berlin, WI and Richard Bezner, San Jose, CA; three sisters, Edna Rohrback, Moline, IL, Marge Johnson, Highmore and Mildred Hauschld, Mazoo, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ivan; an infant daughter, Phyllis and his first wife.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 4 at the Methodist church, Highmore with the Rev. Orland Sloat officiating. Burial was in the Highmore City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandchildren, Casey Straight, Kathy Loken, Steve Cermak, Gerry Van Zee, Tim Van Zee, and Charles Curtis.
