Goethe's wife. She was a daughter of Johann Friedrich Vulpius and the younger sister of Christian August. Her full name was Johanna Christiana Sophia Vulpius. She met Goethe for the first time on July 13th 1788 when she gave him a letter from her brother. Within the next few months she moved into his house. In the following year she gave birth to their first child, August. She bore four more children that all died young. The Weimar court and the society rejected the connection between the living legend Goethe and a common girl. After the Battle of Jena und Auerstedt Napoleon invaded the duchy and Weimar was looted. The couple remained in the city and Goethe suddenly decided to marry her after 18 years. The wedding was celebrated on October 19th 1806 in the St. Jacobs Church.
She died in agony after screaming from pain for two days.
