Elsa was born in Hopkins County, Kentucky on September 24, 1922 to the late Charles and Margaret Elizabeth (Fehd) Gerlach. Her career was spent working as a seamstress for Ruth Kishline, Schultz's Department Store and The Baby Shop.
Elsa enjoyed sewing, cooking, making cards and dancing. Along with her parents, she was one of the first members of Concordia Lutheran Church in Evansville and remained an active member there all her life.
Elsa is survived by her daughter, Ellen Higgs (Preston) of Eddyville, KY; son, Gary Kirsch (Judith) of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Robin, Ryan and Justin Higgs, Joshua and Jordan Kirsch and their mother; Linda Kirsch and by her great-grandchildren, Kyla, Noah, Ama and Jacob. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.
Elsa is preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Oscar Kirsch in July of 2009; sisters, Florence Kirsch, Theresa Stremming, Laura Clayton, Helen Levell and Irene French; brothers, Walter Gerlach and Chester Gerlach.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Fri, Aug 31, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, with Pastor David Wiist officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.
