The son of Oswald Lancelot Smith and Mary Magdalene Chewing.He was a lumberman and later a carpenter. He married Lacy Mae Clore and together they had three children, Elsie Mae, Garnett Lee and Lucy Patricia.

Garnett Glaswell Smith, 63. of RFD 1, Fredericksburg died Sunday at University Hospital in Charlottesville.

He was a carpenter.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lacy Mae Clore Smith, two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Lettner, and Miss Patricia Smith, both of Fredericksburg, one son Garnett Lee Smith of Stafford, seven sisters, Mrs. Mary Catlett, Mrs. Lorace Coe, Miss Catherine Smith, and Mrs Anell Steckler, all of Fredericksburg, Mrs Alice Grow of College Park, Maryland, Mrs Annie Bell Grow of Hyattsville, Maryland and Mrs. Dorothy Grow of Jessup, Maryland. Three brothers, Carroll Smith, Marvin Smith and Oswald Smith, Jr , all of Fredericksburg, nine grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Wheeler and Thompson Funeral Home, with burial in the Clore Cemetery in Spotsylvania. The Rev. Lowell Self will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Eddie B Coe, Roger L Catlett, Robert Earl Catlett, Allan C Catlett, Wilbur H Bowler, Jr, Hunter L Bowler, James E Clore, and Charles L Clore.
