Joan was born May 6, 1931 in Brawley to Clisto H. and Lola Mae Smith Alexander. She attended school in Brawley and graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1948. She was Prom Queen her senior year, and a Past Honored Queen of Job's Daughters Bethel 117.
Joan married Lawrence Philip Dahm on her eighteenth birthday, in 1949. They made their home and raised their eight children in rural Brawley, farming and cattle ranching together until Lawrence's death in 1982. They were faithful members of Sacred Heart Church in Brawley. All of their children attended Sacred Heart School.
Joan was a leader for the Westmorland 4-H Club, teaching cooking and sewing 15 years. She was an active member of the Brawley Women's Community Club since 1973. She was actively involved in the Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church.
Joan enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, gardening, music, cooking, traveling, sewing, painting, quilting, silk flower crafts, and reading. She had numerous friends and was loved by all. She often commented that her greatest pride and joy was her family.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley.
Mass will be Friday, November 3, at Sacred Heart Church in Brawley, commencing at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
Joan is survived by her children, Dennis Dahm and his wife Barbara, Douglas Dahm and his wife Hilarie, Carolyn Williams and her husband Jim, Thomas Dahm, Marjie Leimgruber and her husband Wally, Laura Fox and her husband Mike, Julie Taylor and her husband Rick, and Mary Lynn Preece and her husband Steve; ten grandsons and ten granddaughters, twelve great-grandsons and seven great-granddaughters; her sister Patty Fargo and husband Dale and their two children; her sister Jane DeShazo and her three children; brother- and sister-in-law Eugene and Dorothy Dahm; nephew Steve Dahm.
