He received his secular education in a country school, and the Geneva high school.
On April 14, 1915, he was united in marriage to Emma Gerken of Grafton. To this union were born three children: Alvin, Donald and Bernice. They lived their entire life on a farm four miles west of Geneva, until 1954, when they moved to Geneva.
On August 28 of this year, they both moved to the Heritage Nursing Home in Geneva. And it was from here that God suddenly called him from this vale of tears on Tuesday morning of this past week. He had reached the age of 88 years 7 months and 12 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Emma; two sons: Alvin of Geneva, and Donald of Clay Center; one daughter, Bernice (Mrs. Bob Kubovec) of Overland Park, Kas., a sister Dorothy Gehrke of Wichita, Kas., and by 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was an active member of Grace Lutheran congregation, Geneva, for the past 33 years.
Funeral services were conducted from Grace Lutheran church, Geneva, at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 14, with Rev. James Lillo officiating. The congregational hymns, “Near My God to Thee” and “Abide With Me,’ were sung, with accompaniment by Michelle Biester.
Pallbearers were Gary Biester, Henry Itzen, Larry Biester, Jim Kubovec, Stuart Gratopp, Jay Kubovec, Melvin Higel and Richard Wagner. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
