Robert was born on October 30, 1925 in Worthington, Minnesota, the youngest of two children born to the late Robert Herman Nelle and the late Mayme Fidelia Johanna Mich Nelle. He would attend and graduate from Primghar High School in Iowa. Shortly thereafter, he would join the US Navy where he would serve as a proud member of the US Navy Seabees.After his military service, Robert would follow his sister to Dallas, where he would meet Betty Ruth Tumlinson. On August 21, 1948, they would marry, a union that they would share for the next 64 years.Robert would soon begin a career in the defense industry, working many years as lead man for LTV. Together, he and Betty would move to Grand Prairie where they would make their home and raise five children.
Survivors: wife, Betty Nelle; children, Claudia Guetschow of Sloan, Iowa, Gary Nelle and his wife Lorrie of Arlington, Texas, Connie Haack and her husband Dave of Granbury, Texas, Nancy Wilson and her husband Jay of Peoria, Arizona, Cathy Nelle of Grand Prairie; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Rosemary Neece of Austin, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 610 NE 17th Street, Grand Prairie, where he was a member.
Burial: DFW National Cemetery.
