Osie Newman Abel age 84 died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at his home in Manassas, Virginia.

Mr. Abel was born November 21, 1924 in Manassas, Virginia, son of the late Osie A. and Ella Priscilla (Payne) Abel.

He was a WWII US Navy Veteran who served from 1943-1946 as a Seaman First Class on the USS Chatelain "Turtlebacks" and received many medals which include: The America Area & 1 Star, Victory World War II, European African Middle Eastern & 1 Star and The Presidential Unit Citation & 1 Star.

Mr. Abel retired from VDOT after 19 years of service.

Proceeded in death by his parents, two half sisters: Myrtle Payne and Anna Harris and one brother: Joseph Abel.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Ann Abel of Manassas; three children, Terry Shenfish and husband James of Front Royal, Virginia, Tina Grifana and husband Philip of Williamsburg, Virginia and Tracy C. Abel of Manassas Park, Virginia; one brother, Woodrow Abel of Dale City, Virginia; four sisters, Arlene Taylor of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Maggie Johnson and Louise Simmons both of Augusta County, Virginia and Rosie Perry of Manassas, Virginia; five grandchildren, Jaimie Shenfish, Christin Cameron, Michael Shenfish , Tiffany Grifana and Stacy Grifana and a special nephew, Ricky Abel of Independent Hill, Virginia.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 2-4 PM and 6-8PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia where funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Stafford Memorial Park, Stafford, Virginia with military honors.
