Mrs. Carlsen Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack
Mrs. C. J. Carlsen, 77, long time Emmet county resident, died of a heart attack at her 1209 N. Seventh street home 5 a.m. this morning. Death was completely unexpected since she had been in good health. She was the mother of Mrs. Everett Shaw and Mrs. Stanley Erickson of Estherville.

She was born Malinda Knutson, Oct. 8, 1872 [per gravestone, 1871] near Morris, Ill., and received her education in the Morris public schools. About 51 years ago, she was married in Illinois to Carl J. Carlsen and soon after, the couple moved to a farm in Emmet county southwest of Ceylon, Minn.

In 1930, they retired from the farm and moved to Estherville to live. Mr. Carlsen died in December 1940.

Mrs. Carlsen was a member of Palestine Lutheran church, and always was active in church work.

Survivors in addition to Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Erickson are two other daughters, Mrs. E.O. Christensen of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Albert Anderson, Ceylon; five sons, C.N.
