Werner T. Buckentin, 88, of Waconia
Funeral services for Werner Theodor Buckentin, 88, of Waconia and formerly of Plato, were held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from St. John's Lutheran Church in Plato. Officiating was the Rev. Bruce Laabs.
Mr. Buckentin died on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.
The organist was Cheryl Andrix. The congregational hymns included "Just for a Closer Walk with Thee," "Great is Thy Faithfulness" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Special music was provided by granddaughter, Cindy Steinert.
Honorary urn bearers were his grandchildren. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Buckentin was born Feb. 3, 1921, to Edward and Bertha (Bruns) Buckentin in Young America Township, Carver County. He was baptized on Feb. 13, 1921, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg by the Rev. H. J. Bowman and confirmed into the faith on April 14, 1935, also at Emanuel Lutheran by the Rev. Bowman.
Mr. Buckentin was united in marriage on April 5, 1945, to Lorraine Mackenthun at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The couple was blessed with three children.
He worked at Selchow Hardware doing plumbing, heating and anything else that needed to be done.
He married Lena Reinitz Lilienthal on Oct. 26, 1968, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Plato.
He enjoyed the outdoors, like fishing, hunting, trapping, playing cards and listening to old time music.
Survivors include his children, Charleen (Loren) Engelmann, Rodney (Charlene) Buckentin, Donovan (Mary) Buckentin, Mary (Buddy) Parpart, Ruth (Jim) Harrison, Ivan (Cathy) Lilienthal, Bruce (Nelva) Lilienthal, Kim (James) Baglien, Gene (Cyndie) Lilienthal, Kathrin (Tony) Pulchinski, Mavis (Jeff) Lindstrom; his grandchildren, Cindy (Adam) Steinert, Scott (Kristen) Engelmann, Johanna Buckentin, Ellaina (Ryan) Wales, Katrina (Aaron) Freer, Matthew (Jamie) Buckentin, Rachel (Ryan) Demlow, Nathan (Mandy) Parpart, Jonell (Matt) Pacyga, Kathleen (Kurt) Anderson, Debra Harrison, Vince Lilienthal, A.J. Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
