He graduated from Fordham University in 1959. He received a master's degree in management from the University of Colorado under the auspices of the Air Force Institute of Technology and a master's degree in political science from Auburn University. He was also a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College. He began his military career when he was commissioned in the Regular Air Force through the ROTC program at Fordham University. He was a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), beginning as a "street agent" and progressing through a number of increasingly responsible command and staff assignments. He served as the AFOSI vice commander from 1980 to 1986. His final active duty assignment was as military assistant in the Office of the Department of Defense Inspector General. His overseas assignments included Tokyo, Japan; DaNang, Vietnam; Grenada; and Rome, Italy. Among his military awards and decorations were the Legion of Merit [3]; Bronze Star; Air Force Meritorious Service Medal [2]; and Air Force Commendation Medal [2].
He was predeceased by a son, BG Terence J Hildner. He was survived by his wife of 52 years; one son; a daughter; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one brother.
Interment on October 3, 2012.
