Gertrud E. Jiko was born in Poland March 12, 1920 and moved to Germany as a child. She married 1951 in Germany where Walter Jiko was stationed in the American Army. In 1968 they moved to Colorado Springs where they bought a house. They lived there till the present. Her husband Walter Jiko passed away March 21, 2009. They had no children and Gertrud is the last survivor from her family. Gertrud has 2 nieces through marriage to Walter. Gertrud was a person of deep faith and very giving. She had many hobbies. Gertrud loved to paint (oil painting), sew, knit, play pinochle and go to Cripple Creek. She loved to give parties at the REA and go to all you can eat places. Gertrud also loved to go on fishing trips with Walter, traveling to Alaska. Gertrud started losing her eyesight 18 years ago after she had a large cyst removed from her brain. Gertrud went home Sunday evening October 7, 2012. Her heart was tired and just gave out. Gertrud fell peacefully asleep, surrounded by her friends. Visitation is Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 331 Main, Security, CO. Funeral Mass is Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Reception following burial at Retired Enlisted Association, 834 Emory Circle, in the Auxiliary room.
