Joe Hackman dies on Sunday Funeral on Monday

Joseph Hackman age 84 years one month and six days died Sunday evening March 22, 1942 at 5:45 o'clock at his home on South Chestnut Ave. (New Hampton, Iowa.) Mr. Hackman's health had been failing for the past two years but his death was an attack of heart disease and was sudden and unexpected. He was ill only 2 hours. Mr. Hackman was born in Decatur, Indiana on February 16, 1858 a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Hackman. He grew to young manhood and was educated at the place of birth. When 20 years of age he came to St. Lucas, Iowa, (1878) where he engaged in farming.

He was married to Magdalina Meyers at St. Lucas on September 16, 1880. For a few years following their marriage they farmed in the vacinity of St. Lucas. About 1895 the family moved to a farm near New Hampton, Iowa. Twenty two ago they retired and moved to the town of New Hampton to live. Mrs. Hackman died June 18, 1937.

Seven children were born to this union, five of whom survive. Two sons, Henry and Frank have preceded their father in death. One daughter Mrs. Ed Kramer (Regina) of New Hampton and four sons Herman, John and George of New Hampton and Joseph Hackman of Winona, MN. One brother Garret (Gerhard) of New Hampton now as a paient at St. Joseph Hospital, twenty grand children and a number of great grandchildren are left to morn his death. (Note: brother Gerhard died May 8th 1942)

Mr. Hackman was member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the rosary society. He was respected by everyone who knew him or his dealings with his fellowmen were above reproach. He was kind and considerate of his family and friends and inerested in their welfare. He has lived a long and good life and will be missed by all. Funeral services were held Wednsday morning at 9 o'clock in the St. Mary's church with Rev.Iekel in charge. Pallbearers were 6 grandsons. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery New Hampton, Iowa. Twenty grandchidren and a number of great grandchildren are left to morn. The Obituary lists many reliatives who attened the funeral. They had 7 children.
