Sister M. Tharsilla, 88, of Holy Family Convent, Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died Sunday
at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she was a patient seven months.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The
Rev. Ronald Kirk, O. Praem, will officiate and burial will be in the convent
cemetery.
Sister Tharsilla was born at Alverno Dec. 5, 1877, the former Teresa Neuser,
daughter of the late Charles and Teresa Bredle Neuser. She entered the Franciscan
Sisters of Christian Charity Oct. 3, 1894, and professed her final vows Aug. 11,
1898.
She was one of the pioneer sisters of the order and was a nurse when Holy Family
Hospital was opened in 1899. At that time the nursing staff was composed entirely
of nuns. For an exception of eight years when she was at the Good Samaritan
Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio, she spent her entire religious life in nursing at the
local hospital. She retired to the convent infirmary in 1963.
Sister Tharsilla was honored in August, 1949, by the hospital staff for being a
nurse 50 years and was presented a sterling silver watch by the doctors on the
staff.
All members of her immediate family, four of whom were Franciscan sisters, preceded
her in death.
Friends may call at the convent chapel from 7 to 9 o'clock this Monday evening.
