Lou owned her own business, Lous Hat and Fashion Shop at age twenty-two, where she was in business for over twenty years. Later she worked at Bramsons and then was Personnel Director at Goldblatts in Park Forest, She also worked many years at Klines Department Store. Lou was very active in both her church and community. She was a long standing member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, serving as president of the Home and School Guild and Altar and Rosary Society for several years. She was a prominent member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and the St. James Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as chairman of several Pink Balls. Lou was very active with the Retail Merchants Association. She was also chairman of numerous other community Events.

She married Charles O. Westendorf on April 20, 1940 at St. Anns Catholic Church in Chicago Heights,Il.
