Joan Elizabeth Auerbach Burroughs, Indianapolis, was born June 29, 1931 in Alameda, CA to Robert and Geneva (Stahl) Auerbach.

She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, MO and then earned her Graduate Degree in Education at Indiana University. Joan also earned Guidance Certification at Butler University. Joan began her teaching career in Bedford, Indiana then to Frankfort, Indiana, MSD Warren Township and retired from MSD Lawrence Township Schools, 1997. She dearly loved her students through the years, and was truly dedicated to making a difference in young people's lives. Throughout her lifetime, she was very involved with her church family at Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist in Broad Ripple. Joan was also a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Indianapolis Racquet Club and volunteered at Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources. Joan loved music and playing the piano. She played piano for the church Sunday school. She enjoyed caring for her horses and was an exceptional tennis player in her day.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Burroughs in 1983.

Joan is survived by her brother, Dale (Kaye) Auerbach; nephews, David (Kathy) Auerbach and Bradley (Linda) Auerbach; great niece, Mikaya Elizabeth Auerbach and her devoted chihuahua, Princess Gracie.

Funeral services for Joan will be Friday, October 26th at 11:00 AM in Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at time of service.

Interment follows at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
