In 1881 he became a consultant at Finnish battalion. He became chief of the Finnish army in 1895 and was the Director General of the Medical Board 1902-06. He was truly minister in 1903 and knighted in 1904 with the name von Wahlberg. As a Guard participated in the Russo-Turkish War 1877-78, which he described in From a härfärd in Turkey (1877-1878).
