Gary A. Emerich is from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. I'm married to Judith Emerich. My schools include Chilton High School. I later attended UW-Fond du Lac. Where I served 2 years in Student Government, one of those years as Student Body President. I served as one of five students on the state level voting on system issues. While in college one of my professors had been a Green Beret and he taught me to Sky Dive. So I have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane 12 times. I'd love to do it again but my Cardiologist would kill me. I worked for the City of Fond du Lac Fire Department for 30 years 1974 to 2004. I have been retired since. While on the fire department I served as a Firefighter - EMT, Firefighter Paramedic, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain and finishing my last 5 years as a Battalion Chief. In the 80s I also served Fond du Lac County on its first SCUBA Search and Recovery Team. In 1976 I ran for the Fond du Lac County Board. I lost to the incumbent by 33 votes. In 1978 we moved to a 5 acre Hobby Farm near Lamartine WI where we raised horses, lamas, chickens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, goats, geese, and 2 wonderful children. Nick who serves in the military and lives in Georgia and Jennifer who is a mom. Jen lives in Fond du Lac with her family. In 1983 I began 2 additions to our home changing it from 1000 square foot to 5000 square foot. I did everything from foundations to cabinets with help from friends and family. In 1998 I found myself getting divorced. I met Judy online. Because she worked at Kohler and I in Fond du Lac we bought 37 acres near Mount Calvary. We designed our house and had it built in 1999. In 2000 we were married in our home. In 2013 Judy retired from Corporate Accounting at Kohler Company. We love to travel. In 2013 we traveled to 35 states and 1 Canadian Providence. In 2016, we've traveled to 20 states and 3 Canadian Provinces. We been above the Artic Circle. We've spent a week in Washington DC. I've been to 49 states and 10 other countries. I love to hop in the car and drive across country. My favorite drive is from Denver to Las Vegas. Moab Utah is one of my favorite areas to visit. In 2015 we sold off all but 3 and a half acres of our land which allowed us to become debt free. I have many hobbies. I am a member of 2 Woodworkers Guilds, Milwaukee and Green Bay. I wood carve. I am a member of the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association. I work with wood, steel, glass, and leather. We own 2 looms and I know how to set them up and use them. I enjoy tools and I'm very fortunate to have a Blacksmith, Wood, Metal, and Machine Shop. My goal is to learn something new everyday. I enjoy gardening and raising cactus in our Greenhouse. I have cactus from all over the country. This year I began my second orchard. I had a 40 fruit trees orchard on our hobby farm. This one I will limit to 12 fruit trees and several variety of nut trees. I love to build and repair things. After 5 years of work I finished a large patio project which included retaining walls, stairs, and walkways around the house and out to the bridge of our pond in the fall of 2019. When the house was being built we needed 5000 yards of fill so we had them dig a pond. It measures approximately 200 x 90 x 18 feet deep. I stocked it with goldfish and Koi from our Hobby Farm pond in Lamartine. I consider myself very hard working and very very fortunate. I'm the father of 5 and the grandfather of 15. I have shared my life with 2 wonderful women who were and are my best friends. I have a 93 year old friend who mentors me and when I grow up in want to be just like him.
In October of 2016 we added solar panels to the roof of our pole barn and in October of 2018 we purchased a Tesla Model 3. It is by far the best car I have ever owned. We drove it to Pasadena and back in 2018 and 2019. I will be making that trip again very soon.
