In 1906, Alice Mills Seaman and John Seaman recorded about 437 burials indicated by remaining stones and monuments. Nine years later, city engineer David Morrow surveyed the cemetery and recorded 313 graves.
At various times after the current Washington Cemetery opened in 1853 and continuing to the 1930s, city officials asked families to remove their deceased relatives from the Old Graveyard and reinter them elsewhere. Many were moved to the current Washington Cemetery or to other locations, but at least 44 individuals' remains were not. All of the stones and monuments were removed, with many being used for sidewalks. The cemetery was finally destroyed during construction of the John F. Kennedy Catholic School on the site.
In 1973, the Hoge Memorial was dedicated on the northeast corner of the Old Graveyard. It contains a plaque listing the names of 331 individuals originally buried in the Old graveyard. Several sources state that the Memorial contains the remains of individuals disinterred during construction of the school; other sources say that these were moved to the Old Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
