The small cemetery is in Washington Twp., Marion County, Indiana, in a little park now owned by the town of Wynnedale, 2400 W. 42nd St. (42nd & Wynnedale Drive) just west of Michigan Road.
This tiny family burying plot is on a ridge between two gravel pits. It is located on land once owned by Thomas E. Swift, early pioneer , and his descendants.
No markers remain today so there are several unmarked graves.
NOTE: John Swift of Arizona, went looking for a lost cemetery of his 4th Great Grandfather, Thomas E. Swift in September 2006. Thanks to him for sharing his findings with Bob Alloway, which in turn has shared with me.
John funded the lost stones project. Many people never see the fruits of their labors, but John has succeeded. It started 45 years ago for him when he began his family history search.
He had to get the approval from 277 people living in the town of Wynnedale plus fill out V.A. forms and show proof for each soldier buried at Swift to order the Gov't markers. Plus he did all this coming back and forth from Arizona.
"What a gent!"
Thanks to John Swift for all of his hard work and dedication.
