REIFF #1
Oley Township: From Friedensburg Rd .. 1 mile south of Rt. 73, Oley, right on Old State Rd., .6 mile to Reiff Rd. on right, Cemetery situated in yard and fields on the north and east side of the Reiff B. & B.
Size: Too irregular and massive to estimate or measure with all the building interruptions.
History: Conrad Reiff was the largest taxpayer in Oley Township at that time. He did own slaves. Likely this site includes burials for many who lived on the colonial and early large Reiff estate. (MHBA, 1685 + )
Gravemarkers and inscriptions: A tombstone with the following inscription stands against the butcher door: Philip Kilwain who died
March 6, 1736.
Observations: "9" descendants staying at the Reiff Bed & Breakfast. July 28, 1997, were looking for three burials mentioned in MHBA. The number of the burials found was overwhelming. An implement shed exists across from the log house. Burials begin under the driveway to the top parking lot and continue into the wall of the horse barn and probably into the barnyard itself. A burial pattern
continues in the field on the left and in the field above this barn. The backyard of the B. & B. house is filled with burials beginning at the sidewalk in from the previous mentioned driveway up into the field above and down near house side across in front of the building on the east side of the yard. Likely Daniel, son of Conrad, is buried here. Owner recently reported more fieldstones found
