Add PhotosThe cemetery formerly known as Saint John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fraser, Michigan, was located on the south side of 14 Mile Road, west of Utica Road, behind the Old Saint John Lutheran Church.
The church was sold to another denomination church after the new church was built on the north side of 14 Mile Road.
The old St John Cemetery was closed around 1960 in preparation for the remodeling of the Old Saint John Lutheran School to be converted to the Fraser Library.
Some graves were moved to other cemeteries by their families. The remains that were found were reinterred in St John Memorial Gardens Cemetery in a common grave with no marker and the names of those reinterred were merged into one listing. Any interments prior to 1880 would have been in St John Lutheran Church Cemetery. As of March 2015 there in no separate list of reinterred persons.
Any remaining gravesite monuments were covered over for landscaping and parking areas for the library.
Possibly the descendents of the people intered in this cemetery will add their names to this site in their memory.
The other St John Memorial Gardens Cemetery,is west of here and on the north side of 14 Mile Road. That cemetery was started around 1880 by a group of church members and local farmers who held stock in ownership of that cemetery.
