This is the main cemetery of the city of Duderstadt. It's non-denominational and managed by the town. Duderstadt itself was combined with 14 other villages in 1973, some of which still maintain their own cemeteries.
Sankt Paulus Friedhof has 4 War Grave sections with about 180 eternal graves, soldiers and victims of the two world wars. 70 graves of former forced laborers, killed during the Nazi terror have all but vanished.
Please note that the graves in Germany are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (20-30 years) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany, so the coffin and the corpse have decomposed naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period the duration can be extended by another 30 years. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever.
The former Jewish Cemetery in Duderstadt (used from about 1867 until 1945) - located at Gänseweg - has disappeared. Only a few memorial stones on that property remind people about the lost cemetery that was destroyed during the Nazi terror. Though as of 2014 renovation efforts for that cemetery are on their way.
