Highway 101 north to Santa Rosa. Take Steele Lane exit east. Right on Franklin Avenue. Cemetery is on the left side directly behind Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, which is just past Santa Rosa Memorial Park and the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Description:
The County of Sonoma Cemetery is located on three acres directly behind Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery on Franklin Avenue in Santa Rosa, California. Originally, it was a part of the Stanley Cemetery. The property was purchased by the County of Sonoma in 1944 for the burial of the county's indigent dead. The cemetery is under the jurisdiction of the Sonoma County Coroner's Office.
The first burial was in 1969 and there are currently 349 burials there and soon to be 350. Total of 350 memorials. All the burials have memorials on Find A Grave and have been transferred into this correct cemetery listing. It's been a long and tedious project that is now complete!
****This cemetery is NOT the same as the Old County Cemetery a/k/a Chanate Historic Cemetery!****
County of Sonoma Cemetery is not well known and is not listed on any online Sonoma County cemetery lists yet. Hopefully that will change in the future. It was not too long ago given its current name by the Coroner's Office.
County of Sonoma Cemetery signs will be erected at both entrances. When that happens, photos of the signs will be added to this page.
