Mobridge --- Mass of Christian burial for Frank Scherr Sr., 90, of Mobridge will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Brian Simon will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
A scriptural wake service with rosary will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today until the conclusion of the wake service at the funeral home. There will be closed casket visitation Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Beverly Health Care Center in Mobridge.
Frank Scherr was born June 2, 1912, to Andrew and Mary (Baumgartner) Scherr in Strasburg, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Hazelton, N.D., where he was an avid baseball player. He moved to Firesteel in 1928 to work in a coal mine. He also worked farming, trucking and as a heavy equipment operator.
He married Mary Bornong in 1932, in Bison. In 1942, they moved to Mobridge. He was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad as a fireman and engineer for 33 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher for many years, was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He remained an avid baseball fan throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known for his sense of humor.
Survivors include two sons, Frank (Jan) Scherr Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., and Richard (Connie) Scherr of Newtown, Pa.; two daughters, Madelyn (Cletus) Mulloy of Mobridge, and Marilyn (Keith) Asmussen of Laredo, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Landsberger and Helen Magnuson, both of Bismarck, N.D.; one brother, Ben Scherr of Miller; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995, one grandson, one granddaughter, two brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be grandsons, Jon Mulloy, Kevin Mulloy, Tim Mulloy, Clete Mulloy, John Scherr, Jeff Scherr, Peter Scherr and Greg Scherr.
