Martin Tanner

Died on Monday, February 16 at 1:15 PM, Mr Tanner, one of Tell City's most prominent citizens, at his home near that city. Mr Tanner had been in poor health for several years but until a few weeks before the last he was up and around.

Mr Tanner was born at Einsteler, Switzerland on the 22nd of October, 1859 and was, at the time of his death, 54 years 3 months and 24 days of age. He crossed to this country at the age of six with this parents and came direct to Tell City, remaining here until this death. He owned a large farm near the northeastern limits of the city and besides doing contract grading he attended to his land.

In 1882, on the 12th day of September, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Schorr, which union was blessed with eight children of whom all are living to mourn the loss of a good father. They are Messrs August of Rockport and William of this city. Mrs Henry Oser of Huntingburg, Mrs John Balbach of Rockport and Misses Carrie, Emma, Loretta and Ella Tanner of this city.

His wife preceded him in death on the 8th of September 1900.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from his home and burial was in the city cemetery. Rev. Theo Schlundt conducted the services.

The News extends sympathy to the relatives and many friends of the deceased.

He was a member of the local Gruetle Vlerein and he was in charge of that order.
