Philip Staerkel, 78, of 127 Seventh avenue, passed away at his residence Sunday afternoon at 3:43 o'clock. He had been in failing health since Christmas, 1946.

He was born in the Volga district of Russia, April 13, 1869, and came to Oshkosh in 1903, and had resided here since. He was a retired shoemaker. He was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Sophia: two daughters, Mrs. Harold Potter and Mrs. Carlton Stark, both of Appleton; six sons, Julius, Felix, Theodore, Henry and George Staerkel, all of Oshkosh, and John Staerkel of Appleton; 22 grand children and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Emmanuel Lutheran church, with the Rev. T. J. Mit telsteadt officiating. Interment will take place in Peace Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday afternoon until the time of the services.
