In 1950 the couple moved to a farm near Larchwood, Iowa, and farmed there for 12 years. They bought a farm near Hills and farmed for 10 years. At that time she worked as a nurse's aid at Tuff Memorial Home and occasionally as a substitute teacher. In 1973 they moved to Waubun, where they owned and operated Kruse's Hideaway Resort. In 1989 they retired and returned to Hills. Her husband, Edwin, died in 1998. She lived at Tuff Memorial Home since January 2001.
