Kenneth Ahrendt, 90, of Inwood, Iowa died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Fellowship Village of Inwood. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 30, at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood from 2:00-8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. Memorials may be given to Fellowship Village.
 
Kenneth Lorance Ahrendt, son of George and Cora (Rentschler) Ahrendt, was born August 28, 1926 in rural Sioux County, Iowa. He grew up on the farm he was born at until the family moved when he was a teen to a farm in Lyon County, north of Inwood. Ken proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He served as a Tech Sergeant in Korea from 1944-1947. Ken married Mary C. Lynn on September 3, 1950 in Luverne, Minnesota and together they farmed and raised their 5 children until retirement in 1991. Ken continued to be active on the farm for many more years. Spending time with his family and farming were his great loves. Buying and feeding cattle was his passion and he was really good at it. He had a special love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
Ken served on the Board of Trustees for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he was a long-time member. He served on the Board of Directors for the Inwood Coop Elevator and also the Inwood State Bank.  Ken and Mary were honored with the FFA Star Farmer Award and the Iowa Soil Conservation Award.
 
He is survived by 4 children, Patricia (John) Ovrebo of Halstad, Minnesota, Mary (Paul) Barnes of Mandeville, Louisiana, Linda Ahrendt of Pierre, South Dakota, and Steven (Lori) Ahrendt of Inwood; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lazetta Ahrendt of Inwood; and many nieces and nephews.
 
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cora; beloved wife, Mary; daughter, Peggy Lynne Tiahrt; son-in-law, Craig Tiahrt; brothers, Vernon, Robert and George Jr. Ahrendt; sister, Ruth Kruse; brother-in-law, Edwin Kruse; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Ahrendt and Trudy Ahrendt.
