Visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Additional visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Durant Ambulance Service in her memory.
Mrs. Ovesen died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Davenport Lutheran Home in Davenport, Iowa.
Leila Fern Otto was born August 15, 1923, to Elmer and Meta (Lilienthal) Otto in Stockton. Leila graduated from Durant High School in 1941. She married Hilbert Edwin Ovesen on September 4, 1943, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2007.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton, and the Scott County Farm Bureau. She loved working on the farm, gardening and flowers, especially roses.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Ovesen (Lucy Meyer) of Durant; two granddaughters, Lori Gamble of Walcott, and Susan, and her husband, Brad Suhr of Davenport; three great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Lyle Sissel of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Eloise Sissel.
