This young soldier fought in Fox Company, 16th Infantry Regiment , 1st Infantry Division ("Big Red One") and participated in the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach. His assault platoon formed part of the first wave in Operation Neptune, coming ashore about 6.40 am. By noon, all the officers in his company had been killed or wounded. He was awarded an Infantry Combat Badge as he had fought the enemy in ground combat on "Bloody Omaha."
