Andrew was a U. S. Army Veteran, serving during WW II. He landed in the second wave on Normandy Beach, fought in four major battles. His medals include the Silver Star for Valor.
Andrew worked as a chief of the Albany Fire Prevention Bureau, and as State of Georgia Arson Investigator for 23 years. He was also the first winner of Albany, Georgia Exchange Club Fireman of the Year award.
Andrew was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the Lions Club, Albany Art Gallery, and a 32 degree Mason, past Commander of Hasan Legion of Honor and served as Master of Lodge 708.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (Newberry) Beisel, whom he called, The love of his life, and shared 55 years of happy marriage, two sisters, Erna Bisby and Laura Olsen, both of Herington, KS, two children, Linda (Beisel) Strole of Lawrence, KS, and Andrew August Beisel, Jr., of Leesburg, GA, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Clem Beisel, Wallace Beisel, Edna Christner and Martha Davis, and by his late wife, Margaret (Tappan) Beisel of Geneva, AL.
A private celebration of his long and successful life will be conducted at Mount Hope Mausoleum on Friday, December 7, 2012.
