Funeral Services Held Monday for Sheriff W. Tietgen

Funeral services for Hans Tietgen, 70. Wayne county sheriff !or the past 13 ½ years, were held Monday afternoon at Grace Lutheran cnurch.

Sheriff Tietgen died on his seventh birthday Friday following several months of declining health. He had been county sheriff since his appointment to the post in 1945. Earlier this month he announced his intention to retire after completion of his present term.

Rev. E. J. Bernthal officiated.at Monday's rites. Robert Meyer sang "Abide With Me" and :Nearer My God To Thee". Alma Temme was organist.

Pallbearers were George Stolz, Wiliam Eynon, R. H. Hansen, David J. Hanser, Emil Meyer and Frank Gilbert. Burial was in the Carroll cemetery.

Hans Tiatgan. son of Dietrich and Doris Tietgen, was born May 23, 1888 at Ft. Calhoun. He attended Ft. Calhoun schools. March 11, 1914, he married Cecilia Kruse at Ft. Calhoun. She died in 1940.

For many years Mr. Tietgen was in the merchandising busineas at Sholes. He married Elsie Sluthman, Pilger, in 1945 and, became a member of Grace Lutheran church in 1946.

Survivors include his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Dwaine Van Auker and Mrs. Marvin Ehrardt, Randolph; five sons, Grant, Wayne and Lee, Wayne,[NE]. Alvin, Norfolk, [NE], and Donald, Aurelia, lA, three brothers, Walter, Sholes, [NE], Emil, Carroll, [NE] and William, Ft. Calhoun, and 16 grandchildren.
