In 1837, William traveled to Cincinnati and married Catherine Vogeding in Holy Trinity Church. In 1838, John and Catherine had a daughter but the daughter dies in the summer of 1839.
The 1840 US Census shows William and his first wife, Catherine, living in Glandorf.
William's first wife, Catherine, died in December 1840 shortly after giving birth to son John Henry.
In 1841, William travelled again to Cincinnati and married Anna Maria Altenda in Holy Trinity Church. Willam and Anna Marie have several children, Philomena, William, Mary and Bernard. Anna Maria dies in the summer of 1848 shortly after giving birth to son Bernard.
In late 1848, William travelled once again to Cincinnati and married Mary Wishmeyer in St. Philomena Church. Mary will have 8 more children (two of which die in infancy) and outlive William by 8 years.
In the 1850 US Census, William and his wife, Mary, were living in Ottawa Township. Living with them were their children: Henry, Philomena, William, Mary and Bernard. Their name is found in the index as Gilker.

William died in 1884 at the age of seventy-three years, the last of Father Horstman’s original party. Wife, Mary, died in 1892 at the age of seventy-two years.
