Helen Mickler Arnold died on Sept. 13, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Sept. 24, 2009 at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 256 East Church St., followed by a reception in Taliaferro Memorial Hall.
Helen, born December 6, 1938, was the daughter of Mary Florence and Russell G. Mickler. Her Father, an executive with Winn Dixie transferred from Live Oak to Tallahassee and then in 1948 to Jacksonville. Helen graduated from DuPont HS "The Dragon." Her High School friends were so special, that they formed a lunch and travel group called the "The Dragon Ladies." Helen earned a B. S. degree in Social Work at FSU where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was employed by the State of FL as a Social Worker and later obtained a degree in Education from UNF and taught in the Duval school system for several years.
Helen married her loving husband, Charles in 1964 and they were blessed with a daughter, Christine, in 1970. She served her community as a member of the Junior League of Jacksonville where she helped compile the "First Guide for the Handicapped". She was a Board Member of the Duval County Cancer Society; Women's Board of Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital; The American Heart Association; Learn to Read; JCCI; Information and Referral Service; Legal Aid and the WJCT auction.
In later years, Helen served the Lord as a member of St. John's Cathedral and was affectionately referred to as the "CEO" (Chief Evangelical Officer). She reached the hearts of many people as a member of Heart to Heart Pastoral Care; North American Deans' Conference; Daughters of the King and for 8 years, Chairman of the Newcomers' Ministry.
Helen is survived by her husband, Charles London Arnold, Jr.; daughter, Christine Mickler Arnold; brother, Russell J. Mickler (Linda); two sisters-in-laws, Katherin A. Baldwin and Janice S. Manassa, all of Jacksonville, FL, and ten nieces and nephews.
