Harold Mennen, 95, Owosso, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012, at Oliver Woods Retirement Village.

Harold was born October 31, 1917, in Tippecanoe County, to Herman and Pearl (Burton) Mennen. He was reared in Montgomery County, where he attended New Richmond High School. After graduation from Purdue University, he worked as an assistant supervisor in the Farm Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Harold was in the first contingent of draftees called for training on October 16, 1941, prior to the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7 of the same year. Harold served with the 80th Infantry Division in the European Theater until discharge from active duty on January 1, 1946, with the rank of Captain. He was a part of the assault of the infamous Siegfried Line and the Battle of the Bulge among others. His fourteen military awards included five Bronze Stars for honor. Upon return from military service, Harold served as county supervisor with the Farm Security Administration for several years. After leaving government service he established and operated a distributing company for agriculture equipment. He was interested and active in community affairs and served for 14 years on the West Lafayette Board of Zoning Appeals. Harold was an early proponent of progressive politics and the local, state and national levels. He was the Indiana state treasurer for the McCarthy for President Campaign in 1967.
Harold is survived by his children, Ferol Mennen (Dick Smoak) and Laurel (Bruce) Mennen Robb; grandchildren Randall and Michael (Julie) Robb; sister Mary VanCamp; sister-in-law Marguerite Spears.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2011; sister Ruth Mennen Tribby and brothers Burton, Glen and Hobart Mennen.
