Protopresbyter Alexander Warnecke, 78, of 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse, died Sunday. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he graduated from Columbia College and St. Vladimir's Orthodox Seminary. He was ordained July 28, 1950. He was pastor of Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church since 1951. He founded St. Andrew's Camp in Jewel and Sts. Cosmas & Damian Adult Home in New York City. He was dean of the New York State Deanery. He was a trustee of St. Vladimir's Seminary. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as an interpreter in Berlin.

Survivors: His wife of 52 years, Pauline; two daughters, Daria York of Yonkers and Argyra Lapchuk of North Brunswick, N.J.; two sisters, Elizabeth Youngblood of Wilkes-Barre and Jane Fluegel of Binghamton; six grandchildren. Services: 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Catholic Church and 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial, Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours, 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the church. Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, Syracuse, has arrangements. Contributions: Alexander Warnecke Memorial Fund, 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse 13204.
