Services to celebrate her life will be held friday, Jan., 4, at 10 a.m. at Westway Christian Church, with Pastor William Coop officiating.
A memorial is being established for the Red Cross in Donna's name. Donna has donated her body to sceince and will be cremated at a later date.
Donna was born Sept., 3, 1933 to Hary and Gertrude (Van Waaden) Pieper in Mitchell. She attended Haig School and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1950. She married Royce Gompert June 16, 1951. They farmed in the Mitchell area until 1956, at which time they moved to southern Idaho and Homsteaded. They farmed there until 1970, moving back to Nebraska where they farmed until 1988. Donna and Royce then joined the Peace Corps and traveled around the world. After the Peace Corps, they served as park hosts from 1992 until 2004 in Alaska, Idaho, and Mountain Meadows Campground in Glacier Neational Park, Mont. They were active with the Red Cross, helping with disasters both US and abroad. They spent their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they established many good friendships.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Davie) Compton, Colorado Springs, Colo; Karen Perkins, Mitchell; Jody (Pat) Gillman, Greeley, Colo.; David (Becky) Gompert, Scottsbluff; grandchildren include Sadie and Cody Compton, Jason, Jerad (Kristi), and Derrick (Julie) Perkins, Tina Schulte, Jessica Neilsen, Kelly (Steve) Cox, Amy (Jason) Teets, and Dustin (Joy) Mitchell; and multiple great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbaned, Royce Gompert; parents, Gertrude and Harry Pieper; siblings Jerry Thorson, Gert Stanley, Shirley Olsen and Art Pieper.
