Iris N. Duesterhoft, 78, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 1, 2013. Born in Needville, Texas on August 21, 1934, Iris was the daughter of the late Louis D. and Opal M. Teykl. Her husband of 50 years, Gilbert F. Duesterhoft, brother Donald Teykl, and sister-in-law Dorothy Crank preceded her in death.
Iris was a successful, admired, and loved wife, working mother, grandmother, daughter, sister & business woman who, at the age of 16, after graduating from Needville High School, moved to Houston to attend secretarial school. Her lifelong career at W.L. Lashley & Associates began as part-time receptionist while attending school and ended when she retired in 1996 as Vice President of the company.
Iris is survived by her sons, Russell of Houston; Paul, wife, Martha, sons, Nick & Jake of Seattle; and Kevin, wife, Cheryl, sons, Eric & Cole of Sugar Land; sister, Sally Anderson and husband, Buddy; brother, Louis Teykl and wife, Brenda; sister-in-law, Vallie Teykl; and many other caring family members and friends.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, from six until nine o'clock in the evening at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 9122 Church Street, Needville, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at ten o'clock in the morning at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Needville, Texas. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenberg, Texas. Her grandsons, Nick, Jake, Eric, and Cole Duesterhoft, and nephews, Don, Phillip, Kim, Murray, and Jody Teykl will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions honoring Iris’ memory may be given to The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030, or St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 389, Needville, Texas 77461.
