FERDINAND A. MARQUARDT
Ferdinand A. Marquardt was born near Berlin, Germany, May 28, 1847 and died March 20, 1920 of cancer of the liver at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 20 days.
The deceased came to this country with his parents at the age of 9 years. In the year of l870, he moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he resided until his death.
On Nov. 15, 1877, he was married to Miss Augusta Dallman. To this union were born twelve children, four dying in infancy. Those living are William F., Rufus G., Mrs. Dortha Jungman of De Soto; Mrs. Bertha Maasz of Whitewater, Wis.; Amanda M., Carl O., Emma E. and August C., who reside at home.
He leaves his wife, eight children, one brother, three sisters, 15 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his departure. His life here has been one of honest toil and has been rewarded with a fair degree of success.
The funeral service was held at the Lutheran church Tuesday, March 23d at 2 p.m., of which he was a charter member.
Note: Burial was at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson Township.

"My Grandfather
Ferdinand August Albert Marquardt was born May 28, 1847 - died 3-20-1920
On 11- 15 -1879 he was married to Augusta Wilhelmina Green who was born Aug 3 -1859 & died Dec 23, 1938 Mr Marquardt was a substantial farmer a well respected citizen of Madison Co. Iowa. He was of German birth and Ancestry. He emigrated to this country when he was 9 years old to Clayton County Iowa He was reared with his family until 1870. He bought land in Jefferson Twp Madison County a wild prairie On this land he built a small house 16 x 26 got married and they started housekeeping and raised their family He purchased other lands 160 acres near by and 320 acres in Pipestone Minn. which he rented out. He worked honestly and hard and became a successful farmer. He was interested in public affairs, became a road supervisor and gave his political support to the Democratic Party . He and his wife were Lutheran Church goers His wife outlived him many years .He had a bad liver ailment called cancer Their childrens names were twelve -
