Various sources give her fathers last name as Schaka, Schaezke, Schaetkz and Schaetzke.
Birthplace cited as Neunkirkin, Pomerania, Prussia, or Neunkirchen, Pommern, Prussia, also the place she married Carl Marquardt, her 2nd husband.
"This is a Region called (Kries Regen Valde) near Stettin Germany."

She had two sons with John Westphal her first husband: Carl Frederick August b.Aug 05, 1832 and John F. b.Feb 17, 1834, both born in Prussia.

Dorothea had ten children with her 2nd husband, Carl Marquardt, all born in Neunkirchen, Pommern, Prussia.
The surviving family came to America in 1856.
They settled in Clayton Co., Iowa in 1859.

Her daughter Augusta married Charles Schrader there in 1866 and this couple removed to northeast Kansas about 1868, raised a family and lived out their lives there.

By 1873, Dorethea & Carl Marquardt, as well as their daughter Henrietta 'Wilhelmina'(Mrs. Gerhardt Storck), their son Ferdinand, their daughter Henriette(Mrs. George Storck), their son Herman and their daughter Albertina, had settled on land in Madison County, Iowa. And they all lived out their remaining lives in that area.

"They were known as the old settlers or Pioneer People of America. Each ones home became a well known landmark from when he lived."
