Farmer killed at Gann Valley
GANN VALLEY - A 52-year-old Gann Valley farmer, Herman F. Viereck Jr., was killed Wednesday afternoon in a farming accident on his property seven miles southwest of here.
According to the Buffalo County Sheriff Francis, Healy, Vierneck was drilling oats on his farm. He was filling the drill boxes from a truck with an auger and Healy believes that when the truck box was raised, it didn't come down.
He said Viereck apparently then went back, reached across and pulled on the cable, causing the box to come down, pinning him between the box and frame.
The accident was discovered by James Anderson, Alpena trucker who had driven to the Viereck farm to deliver a load of grain.
Healy said the accident occurred sometime after 12 noon. Anderson drove to the Viereck farm and discovered the bod at about 1:45 p.m.
