Sutton News (Sutton, NE) July 22, 1921

John Spahn was born at Norka, Russia, on February 24, 1861 and died at his home in Sutton, July 18, 1921, aged 60 years, 4 months and 24 days.

He came to America in 1876 with his parents at the age of 15 years, settling on a farm near Sutton, Nebr. He was united in marriage to Catherine Deines on Dec. 24, 1884. Nine children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy.

He farmed for many years in this vicinity, but for the last few years has made his home in town. He was a good father and husband and a good citizen. He is survived by his wife, 4 sons and 4 daughters, many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church conducted by Revs. Abrahams and Weins of Henderson, assisted by Rev. McCorkle. A large concourse was present to show their last respects to their departed friend. Internment was made at Sutton cemetery, a short service being conducted at the grave by Rev. Kleiber.
