Mrs. Betty White Stewart, age 81, of Fernandina Beach, FL, wife of the late J.H. Herb White, and Samuel E. Sam Stewart, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
She leaves behind, her daughters, Jamie White Wyatt (Ed), Fayetteville, GA, Nancy White Clark, Fernandina Beach, FL and other loving family members.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:30 3:00 pm at Oxley Heard. She will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.

Betty Queen White Stewart, 81, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, beloved by all, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2013.
Miss Betty was born on April 24, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia to Helen Mabeth Wilson and Samuel Andrew Queen. Miss Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jean Queen Walker. She was married for 40 years to James Herbert (Herb) White, Jr. q.
She loved the mountains of Rabun County, Georgia and enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. A lifelong Christian, She grew up attending Baptist and Methodist churches. At her death, she was a confirmed member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Fernandina and for many years, an active member of Avondale Baptist Church in Jacksonville as well as the First Baptist Church in Fernandina.
A Home Economics major at Georgia State College for Women (GSCW) in Milledgeville, Georgia, Miss Betty was a 60+ year, Lifetime Member, of the Home Economics Honor Society, Phi U. Phi Upsilon Omicron stands for the Greek phrase The Light of the Home, which she epitomized. Miss Betty loved to entertain. She was always willing to open her home for meetings and parties and delighted in being teased by an old friend about her penchant for garnishing and food presentation. She enjoyed experimenting with recipes, and modeled the Biblical gift of hospitality by preparing meals for those in need.
While her daughters were young, she was a stay-at-home mother, room mother, and Brownie troop parent. She and her husband, Herb, taught teen Training Union at the First Baptist Church in Fernandina. Together they started the first adult couples' Sunday School Class at First Baptist. She played in a number of Bridge Clubs and she and Herb were also members of a couple's Bridge Supper Club. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, and membership in The Terpsichorean Dance Club along with other dance groups.
They were Patrons of the Amelia Island Art Association, and donated time and funded many community organizations and causes. She was a founding member and officer of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, member (and officer) of the Fernandina Beach Woman's Club, and member (and officer) of the Camellia Garden Club. Over the years, she also enjoyed membership in the Tuesday Morning Sewing Circle and The Merry Margaritas.
Remembered primarily as a Southern lady, Miss Betty was also a talented businesswoman. She and Herb were partners in their family boat business, Herb White's Marine, in Fernandina and Jacksonville. She was an integral part of the dealership's becoming the World's Largest Johnson and Yamaha Motors Dealer during the 70's and 80's. They were active members of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB.)
After retiring from her career in the family business, she became a tireless volunteer at church and other organizations. She was a Past President and Life Member of the St. Vincent's Medical Center Auxiliary. She served as an election poll captain and was a dedicated hospice volunteer with Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. She served on the Board for Friends of the Library, and volunteered for the Chamber Music Festival and The Amelia Island Museum of History.
Her beloved husband became ill, and went to his heavenly home, December 20, 1991. Several years later she married long-time friend, Sam Stewart. They were members of St. Vincent's The Order of the Cornette.
She leaves behind her son-in-law and daughter, Ed and Jamie Wyatt, her daughter, Nancy White Clarke, Grandchildren Brittany Wyatt, Blake Wyatt, Jonathan Clarke (Stephanie), and Patricia Clarke. She also leaves behind her special family-by -marriage. Daughters: Beth Stewart Thornton and Susan Stewart Coker (Jack), Sons: Kim Stewart (Becky) and Paul Stewart (Barbara); Grandchildren: Lena Watson, Laura Beran (Josh), Layton Thornton, Mindy Black (Dave), Kyle Coker, Brandon Stewart, Charlie Crosby, Sam Stewart, and Great-Grandchildren: Aiden Watson and Parker Black.
